Caloocan Update - June 9, 2009

PNR DMU Test Run - June 15, 2009

PNR Caloocan Update

 

 Reese members Karel Brouwers, Alberto Nual and Brad Peadon visited PNR Caloocan workshop last March 27, 2009 and were able to observe and document the on-going rehabilitation of a deluxe carriage.

  

The carriage will serve as the model for future rehabilitation work.

 

The carriage will have reclining seats, overhead compartment bins, comfort rooms and amenities that will give Bicol bus operators a run for their money. Photos courtesy of Alberto Nual.

Buda 22

 

 Buda 22 at the north side of the Caloocan workshop.  Reese and PNR executed a Memorandum of Agreement last January 2009 to restore this historic railcar.

 

The Buda 22 railcar is an 8-man multi-gauge motor car made by Kalamazoo Mfg. Co. for the US Railway Grand Division use during World War II. 

 

 After the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement, Reese members with the help of PNR Caloocan workshop personnel prepared the Buda 22 for transfer.  Reese installed temporary wooden wheels.

The new PNR DMU was tested last Thursday, April 9, 2009. The PNR DMU at Pasay Road Station.

Metro By Rail Tour

Reese members visited the LRT 2 Depot at Santolan last October 4, 2008 and experienced first hand the Metro by Rails tour  being promoted by the Light Rail Transit Authority of the Philippines under the dynamic leadership of Administrator Melquiades Robles.

Reese would like to thank LRTA Administrator Melquiades Robles for letting Reese view LRTA’s modern depot at Santolan, Pasig.  Reese would also like to thank Jen Maala, Cecille Lingan and Engineer Merlo Bellardo for spending a Saturday afternoon with Reese members and guiding the society thru the different modern facilities of LRT 2.
